How Small Businesses Should Set Up Guest Wi-Fi
Guests should not share the same trusted network as business computers, servers, printers or management interfaces.
Use separation, not just a different password
A separate SSID is useful, but the important control is network isolation. Ideally, guest traffic should be placed on a separate VLAN or isolated guest network with internet access but no access to internal business resources.
Also consider
- Client isolation where appropriate
- Bandwidth limits if guest usage could affect business traffic
- A clear acceptable-use policy for public-facing environments
- Regular review of guest-network settings
Our fit rule
If your current Wi-Fi system cannot reliably isolate guest traffic from business systems, that is a stronger reason to upgrade than headline wireless speed.
