Business Router vs. Consumer Router

A consumer router can be perfectly adequate for a very small office. A business router earns its keep when management, segmentation, VPN and support become operational requirements.

Choose business-class routing when

  • You need VLANs or separate staff/guest/IoT networks.
  • You need site-to-site or remote-access VPNs.
  • You want centralized monitoring or managed policy.
  • Downtime and vendor support matter.

Stay consumer-grade when

The office is tiny, requirements are simple, and replacing the whole unit is acceptable if it fails.
